Scenario 6 setup and Scene 1. Introducing Kayla

Scenario 6

Part of the reason I like Fantasy is because I like magic. Wizards are my favourite character class in any game, so it is time one arrived on the scene. I have held off so far because I wanted to develop the more mundane side of the campaign first (and because I couldn’t quite settle on how I wanted to model magic) but the time is now.

I have decided that simplicity is the order of the day, so the magic skill will be used to create advantages. Attacking or defending with magic requires either a stunt or tagging a relevant aspect to give permission. (I am unsure about this – perhaps the aspects existence should be enough without needing to be tagged. I will start with the less permissive rule and see how it goes, possibly loosening it later).

So what kind of wizard? I think I am leaning towards a human female. I really like illusionists, however I am going to go for a break from the norm. Magic takes the place of technology in Eberron, so an arcanist based on enchanting magical items fits well. I think I want something more traditional though. Lets start with the school;
1)Abjuror
2) Evoker
3)Illusionist (already decided against)
4)Enchanter (some appeal, but I will skip it for now)
5)Transmuter (I like the idea, but maybe another time)
6)Diviner (too passive. I want some flair)
7)Necromancer (not the vibe I am looking for on this one)
8)Conjuror

Hard narrowing it down. Conjurors are the meta in D and D these days due to the way the mechanics and the available spells work out, and I quite like the idea of a summoner type mage. Abjuration is something I find lacking in D and D, but with a different ruleset, flashy defences are a good alternative to flashy offenses.

Still leaning towards conjuror though, so I will go with that. To give her an Eberron Theme, lets make her an Elemental Binder of the kind who would be expected to bind elementals for Airships and the like. Actually creating those things is a Gnomish secret, but maintaining the elemental bindings is probably done by other Races.

So she is a binder working with house? To maintain air elemental bindings on skyships, and has been posted to the keep to help maintain the airships that dock there. And Kayla Heartfire is born.

Not sure where to start with her adventures though, so I will roll for a random aspect and a random thread getting don’t waste time dealing with fools and The Lord of Blades is gathering an army

It looks like Kayla’s pride and independence is about to collide with the plans of the local Lord of Blades cell. What if she needs something, and that takes her into conflict with the warforged army? Perhaps an expected airship fails to arrive, and rather than rely on others to locate and retrieve the valuable elemental binding apparatus she insists on doing so herself – embarking on a quest that will take her right into the teeth of a warforged military encampment!!!

Can Kayla retrieve the Elemental Binding Apparatus?
Did the skyship crash, or was it brought down?
Can any survivors be rescued?
Can Kalya get herself assigned to the official retrieval expedition?

Scene 1

Can Kayla get herself assigned to the official retreival expedition?
Kayla is working as part of a windwrights team stationed at the fort to provide maintenance and repair for any skyships as they stop there. The retrieval expedition will be mounted by house Lyrandar, and she will need to persuade her superiors that she is a valuable (but expendable enough to be sent) member of the team.

Lets make it a simple overcome roll using Rapport (politics or contacts might work as well, but she doesn’t have those either). She will attempt an advantage first using resources to grease the way (for 3+2=5, creating well placed bribes with 1 free invoke). Then the overcome (for -2, rerolling using the bribes for 4!!! Success). It takes some doing, but she manages to buy her way onto the expedition.

So what is the expedition like?
Are they riding Wind Skiffs? Yes
How many men? About half a dozen? No. Less than that then. Only a handful in a single wind skiff

Lets say Kayla, a pilot, and a navigator/tracker. Who better to hire than Dart!!!
We’ll make the Pilot a half elven extra who pretty much just comes along with the Skiff.
