Scene 2
Lets treat
this like a 5 room dungeon;
Room 1 was
the approach, which Jolene has succeeded at.
Room 2 is the
puzzle room
Room 3 is a
combat
Room 4 is the
trick (or is it?)
Room 5 is the
finale…
So, the
puzzle in room 2.
The next
thing she needs to do is scout out the layout of the compound and figure out
where everything is. As she came here looking for Verden, her primary goal is
to find him.
That sounds
like another challenge.
Can Jolene locate Verdens Cell?
Stealth (to
remain unseen)
Burglary (to
gain access around the compound)
Notice (to spot
where Verden is being held)
First stealth
(for 0+2=2, succeeding at a minor cost),
Second
burglary (for -1+2=1, succeeding at a major cost)
Third Notice
(for -1+2, succeeding at a major cost)
So she
remains hidden, but actually getting in and finding verden require drawing BIG
attention to herself.
Jolene makes
her way into the compound unseen, but security is TIGHT and she can see no way
to get in without being caught so she takes a risk and goes in the easy way.
Holding her hands high, she steps into the light right into the path of the
friendliest looking patrol she can find and surrenders. It is a ploy she has
used before - most people are kept out by security measures, but prisoners are
kept in. By surrendering, she can get an escort straight past all the security
that was keeping her from her goal. The trick is convincing them she is
valuable enough to be kept alive, and getting out again afterwards. Actually,
given the propensity for things to go wrong, getting out again is always a problem
anyway.
Can she
convince them that she knows something worth keeping her around? (rolling
deceit for -3+3=0, she just cant catch a break. She tags master of disguise for a fate point and a reroll getting 0+3=3.
Just enough to be convincing).
Without letting
on any precise details about who she is, or what precisely she knows, Jolene
lays down enough hints about Verden, Vampires (spattered with some tidbits from
the lore she has picked up), and the Brelish crown, hinting that she is willing
to act as a go between and feed them information to keep them one step ahead of
the local authorities. It is not much, but it is just enough for them to decide
she is worth interrogating. Her brace of daggers are taken from her, and she is
unceremoniously thrown into the cellar alongside Verden where he quickly brings
her up to speed.
“I’m here to
rescue you…” she tries weakly, shrugging at the hopelessness of their
situation.
Well she has
succeeded at locating his cell I suppose, but now they are both prisoners. This
doesn’t look like any less tragic a situation than the one we ended last
scenario with, but at least we now have a character involved who actually has
the skills needed to try and get out again…
